RealMe services
Only Government agencies can offer the RealMe login service, but RealMe verified identity is available to both businesses and Government. We can talk you through what’s involved in integrating RealMe into your online service, how much it costs and our ongoing support.
Benefits of offering the RealMe login service
If you're a Government agency, RealMe login makes logging into your service quick, easy and secure - removing the need to invest in your own authentication service. The pay-off for your customers and clients is they can use a single login (username and password) instead of needing multiple logins for different services.
Five reasons to choose RealMe verified identity
- You don't need to carry our manual identity checks or collect and process paper documentation.
- It's fast - your customers and clients can prove who they are to a high level of assurance, quickly and online.
- It's secure and protects privacy - your customers and clients consent to sharing their identity information and we only pass on the minimal personal information needed.
- It reduces the data entry errors and costs associated with manual identity checks.
- It can help your organisation meet your legal compliance requirements. Anti-Money Laundering and Countering Financing of Terroism Act (2009) regulations require many New Zealand businesses to verify the full name and date of birth of their customers before trading with them. RealMe is currently the only acceptable method of identifying customers using electronic verification in New Zealand.
Participating agencies for RealMe verified
To integrate the RealMe verified service into your online services you need to be a 'participating agency' under the Electronic Identity Verification Act of 2013.All public sector agencies are automatically participating agencies.Other participating agencies are:
- KiwiSaver providers

- banks and financial entities (including non-bank deposit takers or NBDT's)
- financial advisers
- market services licence holders
- education and training organisations
- law and conveyancing providers
- accountancy providers
- real estate agencies
- any of the organisations listed in Schedule 1 or the approved list.
Approval as a new participating agency is now less onerous as it is no longer subject to legislative process. If you're a private sector organisation and you don't fall under one of the above classes of approved organisations, please contact us via email at: business@realme.govt.nz to apply.
